Are you goal driven? Then the Youth Career Advisor position is for you! We are seeking a dynamic and team-oriented individual to join our spirited team.

As the Youth Career Advisor, you will support youth accessing services at the One Stop Centers in North Central Connecticut. The Youth Career Advisor will guide youth to the programs connected to the American Job Center that can support their educational and employment goals. As the Youth Career Advisor, you will assess youth and determine the most appropriate path to education and employment. The Youth Career Advisor will also support North Central Regions Youth providers through the intake and certification process.

Responsibilities:

Successful Elements:

  • Identify young adults ages 1824 through initial assessment and inform them of available WIOA Adult and WIOA Youth services
  • Determine WIOA Youth eligibility and accurately complete required documentation for enrollment to determine program eligibility and maintain compliance with funder and Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act guidelines
  • Provide referrals to appropriate One Stop services, business services, online learning centers and community service or social service agencies when needed
  • Convince youth to participate in and follow through with planned activities as outlined in contract with funding agency
  • Oversee youth activities and assist with workshop schedules
  • Track all youth activities including AJC services, ITAs, and other CWP initiatives
  • Create solutions to youth attendance problems
  • Maintain organized database of youth and keep detailed documentation of all contacts
  • Maintain accurate individual case files for each registered youth, ensuring each contain appropriate eligibility documents
  • Guide jobseekers through preparation of individual employment plans based on their specific occupational goals
  • Maintain youth files as specified by contractor
  • Share information with appropriate staff and/or funding agencies
  • Provide consistent and comprehensive case management follow-up and retention services, ensuring that post-placement contacts are made as required by specific contract, accommodating youth work schedules
  • Document all participant contacts and activities in case progress notes
  • Assist in the preparation of project reports as needed
  • Ensure that positive outcomes and goals are met as required by contract
  • Review WIOA intake application and supporting documents compiled by providers and certify WIOA Youth eligibility in accordance with federal, state and CWP policy
  • Identify AJC youth who are suitable for co-enrollment in WIOA Youth programs and assist JFES Career Agents and WIOA Youth providers to coordinate services
  • Collaborate with local area training providers and refer clients as appropriate
  • Contact employers/post-secondary education opportunities by phone or in person and schedule face-to-face meetings
  • Conduct regular assessments tailored to guiding the participant in their career goals
  • Other opportunities as available.
Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Experience working with disconnected youth
  • Skills and experience in providing career development and counseling assistance
  • Clean driving record, reliable transportation
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment
  • Bachelors degree or Associates degree, and three years of work experience in case management/human services or related experience
  • Ability to converse with a wide range of professionals and demonstrate a positive professional attitude
